NEW BLOGPOST STRUCTURE:

I want to streamline my posts a little bit.

I will keep the subpages about the steps I have taken regarding my project and will have a general reflection about my week and anything else of note in this space outside of the subpages.

General reflection on the week

Initally I was going to wireflow out the entire guest experience this week but I realised that I would mostly be repeating work so I decided to dive into a prototype building to start testing it out and get it in front of users as quickly as possible.

Figured out the three tests i want to run for my app:

  1. onboarding and inputting vegetables
  2. gamification and seeing the impact of your contributions: do some a/b testing
  3. If time allows: Account features - run these by users in the guest experience and see how they react to them. I aim to at least have the wireflows built out so that I can run them by users. This is a lower priority test to be entirely honest because the account experience is more personalised but the crux of the experience is the same as a guest - if I focus on making the guest happy first then I’ll have a better leg to stand on to make the account holder even happier.

I am going to start by figuring out the functionality as I am building my prototype on a new software for me, Protopie. I will then move onto the visual design element which I am feeling more confident about thanks to my background in illustration.

With regards to how the week panned out, it was an uphill battle, but I am now at the top of the hill.

It took me ages to unblock mentally and manage to get serious about starting work on Protopie, I was lacking the courage to start learning a new software. Ken did warn us against learning new software for this project and that it was better to use something we already knew if we could but he also encouraged us to be sure to pick the right tool for the job and introduced us to the extremely helpful UXTools resource (2024). Through it I learnt that Protopie can integrate with your phone’s native camera feature which is central to my design so I also knew I just had to get over myself and start.

I am humbled again and again by this masters because of every time I have to pick myself up and start again at the beginning - but you only get better at something by first being bad at it and I was eventually able to get going.

I know that the next weeks are going to require more work as a result of this week not having gone according to plan but that’s just where I’m at - I hope I at least build some resilience with all this.
